Greetings and hello!
the above links will take you to the various eggs that I have engraved and carved using a Turbo Carver with various tips.
The process begins with an Egg, store bought or farm fresh, the egg is blown out ( the yoke is extracted ), I use a Dremel and an attachment that I created that fits on my small compressor to blow out the yoke, that allows for only one hole in the shell. After the yoke is removed I use a mixture of dish washing liquid and bleach to clean out the inside of the egg, this makes sure that all biological material is removed.
After the shells have dried I take a pencil and map out the design that I want to but on the shell, once the design is on in pencil I either begin to carve or if it's an intricate design I go back over the pencil lines with a razor tipped marker, a Sharpie works well for this (ultra fine point).
Then I start carving, I use different tips with the Turbo Carver to achieve various effects, by gently taking off layers of shell until I have the desired image. After the carving is complete I very carefully wash the eggshell with dish washing liquid and a soft tooth brush. I then set the egg aside to dry. After the shell has dried I Lacquer the shell with 5 to 10 coats this protects the design and adds strength to the shell.
When the lacquer has completely dried I attach the egg to whatever base is being used for the finished work with epoxy for a strong hold. The bases that I use are either wood or Flame worked glass that I have created especially for the egg.
